From Washington, DC; Sunday, March 10, 2013
The day is finally here when our Washington trek begins! Our travels on Sunday were great, and we arrived to DC with a surprise of plentiful sunshine and spring-like weather. The nice weather made for an easy and enjoyable trip to the home of Gary and Ann Baise in Falls Church, Virginia. Gary, a member of the IALF Board of Directors, and his wife Ann, hosted our group for a lovely dinner that evening.
There were several other distinguished guests in attendance at dinner with us. Those that gave brief remarks included Dr. Bob Thompson, University of Illinois Professor Emeritus, and Scott Shearer of the Bockorny Group. They prepared the group for what we would hear during the week and discussed how agriculture policy has evolved in Washington, DC.
As an appropriate kick-off to our week, Mr. & Mrs. Baise talked with us about the importance of the program and how much we would learn during our time in Washington. It was a great way to begin our week-long National Travel Seminar!
