International Study Seminar – Day 6, Japan

Saturday, February 27

Julie Wankel & Ryan Buckles – Presiding Fellows

Saturday, February 27, 2016 started our longest day of the trip, literally! We had the morning in Tokyo as free time to do tourist things, shop, pack and prepare for our long day ahead of traveling! Many of the classmates experience the fisherman’s market where they saw a wide variety of fresh fish being sold, however the most notable adventure was the cat petting parlor. We had observed signs throughout the week introducing this interesting experience, and a few of the guys decided they couldn’t leave Japan without checking it out. In their words…The experience did not disappoint!

We boarded the bus at noon to start our voyage to Panama.  Along the way to Tokyo airport we had the opportunity to stop at the farmer’s market of JA Nishi-inba. There we saw a wide variety of fresh foods grown in the area as well as goods imported throughout Japan. This area specializes in growing peanuts, pears and rice.

At the airport we experienced the usual travel lines, security, and flights, however all accommodations went perfectly as planned and we all safely arrived in Panama close to Midnight. After the longest Saturday most of us will experience (roughly 30 hour day), we were all looking forward to checking in to our hotel and resting up to see what the week in Panama has in store for us!
