Jambo! Class of 2020 begins it’s International Study Seminar

Andrew Alton and Jayma Appleby, Presiding Fellows

Jambo! That’s hello in Swahili. The Illinois Ag Leadership Class of 2020 is officially on our way to begin our International Study Seminar to Kenya and Israel. So far, it’s a lot of airport time, cramped plane seats, naps, and makeshift bunks. While everyone is still trying to figure out what time zone they’re in, adrenaline is definitely fueling the group. We all know this will a trip of a lifetime, with lots to learn about new cultures, agriculture, leadership and our place in this ecosystem.

Class of 2020 members Ellen Kamps, Carl Herrmann, and Jill Johnson stop for a moment during a layover in the Amsterdam airport.

While this is the culmination of a fantastic journey, we know we still have one last adventure to navigate together. The level of travel experience varies widely amongst the group, including many who may have never ventured beyond North America. And these countries are a brand new experience for everyone. It’s shared experiences like this solidifies lifelong bonds. Asante and kwa heri! (Thank you and goodbye!)
