Seminar focuses on developing communication skills in
future global agricultural leaders
Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) is sponsoring the “Communication Excellence Seminar” for the Illinois Agricultural Leadership Foundation (IALF). The three-day event will be held December 15-17, 2014 at the John Deere World Headquarters in Moline, Illinois.
The seminar will feature skill development in public speaking, negotiating, empathetic listening, emotional intelligence and other communication functions critical to personal and business success. The mission of the two-year leadership program is to develop knowledgeable and effective leaders to be policy and decision makers for the agricultural industry.
“A growing global population and improving standards of living will place increasing demands on agriculture. The next generation of ag leaders will need many skills. Among the most important will be communications—listening, speaking and interacting. It is through communication that agriculture leaders will collaborate to address the challenges of our world,” said Matt Jansen, president, ADM Oilseeds and a member of the IALF board. “ADM has partnered with the IALF since 1990 to help prepare future leaders for these challenges, and we are pleased to support this new seminar.”
“We’re extremely pleased that ADM in sponsoring this important seminar for our 17th leadership class,” said Don Norton, IALF President & CEO. “Excellent communication skills are a critical proficiency for leaders in the global agribusiness sector.”
The 17th class will graduate in August 2016 after experiencing 14 seminars to build the skills, knowledge and character to be global leaders in agriculture. The 30 men and women in the class include 13 full-time and six part-time agricultural producers. Other class members represent a variety of agricultural finance and allied fields, making for a rich learning environment.
The donation was given through ADM Cares. ADM Cares is a social investment program that directs funds to initiatives and organizations that drive meaningful social, economic and environmental progress worldwide. The program comprises three distinct focus areas: supporting the responsible development of agriculture, improving the quality of life in ADM communities and fostering employee giving and volunteer activities.
